A short note for our visitors

The Deutsches Musikgeschichtliches Archiv (German Archive of Musical History) is holding one of the world's most important collections of sources of German music history in its European context. For musicians, musicologists - and anybody interested in the history of music -, the archive provides easy access to the practical and theoretical testimonials of polyphonic Ancient Music, i. e. music manuscripts and musical prints from the mid-fifteenth to the early nineteenth century.

Founded in 1954, the collection has increased to over 35.000 items on microfilms and microfiches, representing sources originally preserved in more than 500 libraries and archives all over the world. For six decades our users are well-known professional musicians as well as academic teachers and their students, editors, ambitious amateurs, and historians.

The online catalogue of the collection is being prepared, as well as an English version of the site.

Sincerely,

Dr. Carola Finkel

Head of the DMgA
